KIARA, GENERAL LAYOUT
Kiara is a British Registered Ship, official number 387382, registered and fully owned by myself, registration is good till 30 March 2008.
She is a GRP flush deck long keel double ender with a designed weight of 13 tons; however in cruising trim she is closer to fifteen tons.
Her overall length is 40ft and 32ft on the waterline.
Her theoretical hull speed is 7.4 kts but is happier and more economical to run at 5.5 where she will burn 2.5 litres per hour.
She has accommodation for six in one double, two quarter births and two saloon births.
She has tiller steering assisted by a trim tab on the rear edge of the main rudder.
This trim tab can be driven by the Hydrovane self steering gear or by a small tiller pilot as the loads are very low and the lightest tiller pilot is well able to steer her accurately and effortlessly.
There are three tiller pilots on board as well as the Hydrovane self steering gear.
The deck is glassed over ply with exposed timber beams covered with grey, cork and rubber composite, non slip decktread material.
Although designed as a cutter rig, we effectively use her as a sloop with a roller furling genoa, the staysail head stay being secured aft to clear the triangle forward of the mast for short tacking of the genoa.
Although we prefer to use the sloop rig, all the gear required to put her back to cutter rig is retained and takes only a few minutes to set up.
In 2003 all the underwater gel coat was peeled and replaced with a total thirteen coats of paint, seven being epoxy, full details of the
products and application scheme are available.
Certain items on board, marked with an *, are not included in the inventory, however if they are required they are available for sale as optional extras.
In April 05 she was resprayed and new anti foul applied.
The general condition of the boat, her systems and extras is excellent and far better than many of much younger years, and with her new paint
she looks is showroom condition Besides enjoying the sailing life I am a maintainer, previously an aircraft engineer, and like to have
everything working well; anything that doesn't and can't be fixed has no place on my boat.
