I have owned this boat since 1998 and have sailed in fresh water only in Lake George, New York.
I love this design, the large cockpit and complete open architecture below rivals our friends’ 25-26 footers in cockpit and cabin space.
We can overnight three adults or two adults and two (small) children comfortably.
The boat is relatively heavy at 3600 lbs. but the displacement combined with the long waterline and moderately powerful sailplan gives it punch and range seldom found in a boat of this size.
With a wing keel and draft of only 32” we can poke her in docks and anchorages that other sloops have to pass up.
The outboard hung rudder is nicely balanced and provides good control.
And aside from all the features and amenities; the thing sails like a witch!
O’Day’s have been well known for great sailing capabilities and the 240 is no exception.
With a CR Hunt designed high lift wing keel, the boat will rival performance of boats with significantly deeper keels.
