Electrical System and instruments: 12 V DC with two deep cycle batteries – total amp hours of 270.
Battery switch replaced in 2002; Danforth Percent Charge Meter; DC Electrical panel. -‐Datamarine depth sounder with alarm -‐Datamarine speed and distance -‐Bulkhead mounted compass
Sails and Rigging: Sloop rig with aluminum deck-‐stepped mast.
Standing rigging replaced in 2001.
Full batten main with heavy cruising cloth made by Hood Sails.
Three reef points and rigged jiffy reef system.
All running rigging updated continuously and in good shape.
Original jib self-‐tending boom replaced with Harken roller furling.
Main Sail – Custom made by Hood Sails in 2000.

Canvas and ventilation: Dodger replaced in 2004 and a custom removable helmsman awning extension added for extra sun protection.

Mechanical Systems: This is a very simple boat to operate.
All systems are straightforward. -‐Fresh water foot pump at galley. -‐Manual Raritan head replaced in 1998.
Holding tank with deck pump out. -‐Whale manual bilge pump in cockpit and Rule electric bilge pump with float switch. -‐Tiller steering. -‐# 20 CQR bowsprit mounted anchor with 50’ of chain and 200’ of rode. -‐Spare Danforth anchor stored in stern lazarette with rode.
Remarks:The Cape Dory 28 is a remarkably safe, sturdy design that can take you anywhere you wish in the Chesapeake.
In many anchorages we have been the smallest and probably least expensive boat, but that did did not stop captains of much more prestigious yachts from giving us an appreciative nod as they motored by and mouthing “ nice boat”.
